The Environmental Protection Authority (EPA) has completed its assessment of the 19 kilometre freeway, recommending it may be implemented but with conditions that include the mitigation of impacts on the local western ringtail possum.
EPA Chair Dr Tom Hatton said the proposal occurred within predominately cleared land, and would involve clearing 92 hectares (ha) of native vegetation within a 625 ha development envelope.

EPA Chair Dr Tom Hatton said the proposed Asian Renewable Energy Hub comprised a series of onshore wind turbines and solar panels situated about 220 kilometres east of Port Hedland, with a transmission cable corridor to the coast and subsea cables to the edge of state waters.

The EPA completed a 12-week consultation period from June last year, before releasing its greenhouse gas emissions guidance as a draft in December. The EPA’s Stakeholder Reference Group were given a further eight weeks to consider the draft guidance and provide feedback directly to the EPA.

Read more...The Environmental Protection Authority (EPA) has recommended a second potash proposal for environmental approval, with the completion of its environmental impact assessment on the Lake Disappointment Potash Project, in Western Australia’s Great Sandy Desert region.
EPA Chair Dr Tom Hatton said the proposal, located 320 kilometres east of Newman, would produce 400,000 tonnes of sulfate of potash a year from Lake Disappointment for domestic and international markets and was assessed on its unique location and environmental impact.

Read more...The Environmental Protection Authority (EPA) has recommended Covalent Lithium Pty Ltd’s Earl Grey Lithium Project, 105 kilometres southeast of Southern Cross, to go ahead.
EPA Chair Dr Tom Hatton said the EPA found the Earl Grey proposal could be environmentally acceptable, if certain conditions were implemented to avoid and minimise potential impacts.
“This is the second largest lithium mining proposal, along with the Greenbushes mine expansion, the EPA has assessed this year,” Dr Hatton said.
