The Environmental Protection Authority (EPA) has recommended a compliance start date for Chevron Australia’s carbon dioxide injection system at its Gorgon Gas Development on Barrow Island.
The EPA was tasked with inquiring into the date at which Chevron would be accountable for its carbon dioxide injection system, given the delay in using the injection system after the proponent had begun gas processing operations.

EPA Chair Dr Tom Hatton said all submissions would now be reviewed and work on redrafting the greenhouse gas guidance would begin.
“The EPA received more than 6500 submissions and I thank everybody who took the time over the last 12 weeks to provide feedback on this important and complex process,” Dr Hatton said.
Read more...The Environmental Protection Authority (EPA) is recommending a proposal from the Public Transport Authority to extend the existing Thornlie rail line to Cockburn Central Station for environmental approval.
EPA Chair Dr Tom Hatton said although the new rail track would be within the existing rail corridor between the Kwinana Freeway and Albany Highway, with new stations at Ranford and Nicholson Roads, the Thornlie-Cockburn Link would have an impact on the environment, but these impacts could be managed and mitigated through a number of conditions.

Hastings Technology Pty Ltd’s Yangibana Rare Earths Project proposes to mine and process rare earth element ore on a 13,373 hectare site about 270 kilometres north-east of Carnarvon.
Read more...The Environmental Protection Authority (EPA) has recommended environmental approval for the Eliwana Iron Ore Mine Project, subject to conditions including minimising impacts on surface and groundwater, flora and vegetation, subterranean fauna and places of Aboriginal cultural significance.
Fortescue Metals Group (FMG) propose to develop and operate the Eliwana Iron Ore Mine Project, located 90km north-west of Tom Price in the Pilbara.
EPA Chair Dr Tom Hatton said if all the recommended conditions were implemented, the proposal would be environmentally acceptable.

EPA Chair Dr Tom Hatton said the consultation will help ensure the EPA’s assessment guidance on greenhouse gas emissions is well informed by both the industry and the community’s views.

The proponent, DDG Operations Pty Ltd, proposes to develop and operate the Pluto North West Shelf Interconnector – a 3.3 kilometre buried steel pipeline within the Dampier to Bunbury Gas Pipe Line Corridor to connect the Pluto Liquefied Natural Gas plant and Karratha Gas Plant.

The Environmental Protection Authority will open public and stakeholder consultation on its greenhouse gas guidelines next month.
The 12-week consultation period will begin on Monday 10 June, closing on Monday 2 September 2019.
EPA Chair Dr Tom Hatton said the Authority had listened to industry, interest groups and the community on the need to consult further on the guidelines, which were rescinded in March.
