The City of Stirling proposes to redevelop its existing Recycling Centre Balcatta to establish an update Community Recycling Centre (CRC) and Waste Transfer Station (WTS) Facility located at 238 Balcatta Road, Balcatta, Western Australia. The site is located within an industrial and business area and under the City’s Local Planning Scheme No. 3 has been designated as a ‘Special Control Area’ zoned as ‘Industry’.
The CRC will encourage the reuse and recovery of materials and diversion of waste from landfill. To manage materials that cannot be recovered, the facility will also provide waste disposal services, which will be transferred via the WTS Facility for consolidation prior to onward processing or disposal at a suitably licence facility.
The WTS Facility has been designed to provide short-term storage capacity for the consolidation of various waste streams, including commercial and industrial waste, hard waste (bulk), general waste and Food Organics Garden Organics (FOGO) from waste collection services. General waste and FOGO will be removed from the site within 24 hours. Waste materials will be loaded into dedicated transportation vehicles for haulage to various processing or disposal points.
