SCM Chemicals Ltd (the proponent) proposes to continue using its Dalyellup solid residue disposal site beyond March 1994, the expiry date of current approvals for the site. The proposal is for Stage 2 of the Kanowna Belle Gold Mine, comprising the construction and operation of a sulphide concentrate oxidation plant (roaster) within the existing mine site infrastructure. Stage 2 will provide the necessary facilities to further treat high sulphide containing ores to remove the gold that is not extracted in the Stage 1 plant. In March 1988 the Health Department of Western Australia, the proponent, requested that the waste receival time on Saturday at the Westfield Treatment Plant be changed from 9.00 am to 12.00 noon to 7am to 4.00pm. During its assessment of this request (EPA Bulletin 348) the EPA, after consulting with the City of Armadale and other decision making authorities, found the change acceptable.
