The proposal is to develop and operate a direct shipping iron ore project in the Pilbara, as allowed in Ministerial Statement 775 . The project involves the open-cut mining of eight small pits approximately 70 kilometres east of Port Hedland to obtain direct shipping ore quality haematite. The proponent proposes to mine up to 10.1 Mtpa of magnetite ore to produce 6 Mtpa of ore concentrate over a 15 year mine life. The magnetite concentrate would be conveyed to Port Hedland from the mine via a 110 km slurry pipeline located alongside the existing Pilbara Energy Pipeline (PEPL).
