The proposal is to commence sand mining operations. It is estimated that the area contains 7000 - 8000 tonnes of sand, and all extraction will be confined to the eastern slope or leeward side of the dune. The proposed method of operation is to remove the top one metre of the dune surface and stockpile this separately for future use. The remainder of the dune will be worked, using a front end loader, to ground level. The sand would be loaded directly on to a truck. No equipment of any kind would... Two initial wells are proposed, followed by a minimum of four exploration wells over the next five years. To improve the efficiency of the formal assessment process and reduce repetition it has been agreed that, instead of submitting proposals for one well at a time, it would be acceptable to submit a proposal for a programme to address the entire permit area, provided that the CER adequately addresses all the relevant issues and that the site specific data would be submitted at a later stage,... This proposal to fill an old limestone quarry with dry inert fill is within an area affected by the Environmental Protection Authority's System Six Recommendation MS. As the site is surrounded on three sides by Neerabup National Park, the potential impacts of the proposal on the values of the park need to be considered. The potential for groundwater pollution is an issue of concern because the site is located about 800 metres upstream of an area designated by the Water Authority as a... In 1969, Western Mining Corporation Limited constructed a tailings pond in Baldivis, 7 km from the Company's Kwinana Nickel Refinery, to store solid and liquid wastes from the refinery. In March 1979, it was discovered that the tailings pond was leaking ammonium sulphate solution to the groundwater resulting in contamination of the bottom third of the groundwater body (aquifer). Currently, the proponent is recovering contaminated groundwater to manage the spread of the plume. However, at... Read more...Last updated: May 27, 1991

Minerals would be separated from the ore in a wet concentrator floating behind the dredge and by dry concentration at a dry mill at the north of the site. Sand and fine tailings would be returned to the... Read more...Last updated: May 3, 1991
The proposal is for remedial treatment of Lot 839, Railway Parade, Bassendean. The site contains various waste materials which can be traced to the site's historical land use as an iron and steel foundry, processing scrap metal from any source available including mining waste, old railway carriages and fabrication off-cuts. The foundry was closed in 1982 and most of the production plant was dismantled and removed. Since this time there has been negligible activity at the site. The site is...
