Borrow Pits in Millstream Chichester National Park

The proposal is for seven borrow pits in the Millstream Chichester National Park (MCNP) where up to 118 hectares (ha) will be disturbed, of which 90 ha is within the national park and the remainder in the excised rail corridor. The advice applies to a proposal referred to the Environmental Protection Authority (EPA) by Capital Recycling on 6 November 2012. The proposal is to extract gravel from Lot M1822 on Diagram 8755 Horton Road, Woottating in the Shire of Northam. Relocation of Herne Hill quarry operation

Existing quarry operations (Pioneer No.1) are located on freehold land owned by Pioneer at Lot 11, Neuman Road, Heme Hill in the Shire of Swan. It is proposed to relocate the operation to a new site (Pioneer No.2), within the freehold property, 1.5 kilometres east of the present site in a valley behind the main ridge of the Darling Scarp. Resource extraction and earthworks for future industrial land development

The most significant impact of the proposed resource extraction involves the clearing of 219 hectares of native vegetation. A beneficial outcome of the proposal is the retention of 218ha of remnant native vegetation for conservation purposes, which includes: • Bush Forever sites 293 and 384 (119ha); and • Threatened Ecological Community (FCT 26a) and Priority Ecological Community (FCT24) (99ha).
