West Australian Petroleum Pty Ltd (WAPET) has sought approval for changes to refuelling practices and oil spill response plans in its offshore permit area, TP/3 Part 1, located west of Onslow. The intended location for disposal of dredge spoil is proposed to be changed from land disposal in No Name Creek (as approved in Ministerial Statement 320 ) to marine disposal in a previously used offshore disposal ground. Woodside believes that offshore disposal will provide more assurance than onshore disposal in preventing any significant environmental impact to the near shore environment. This is the inquiry under s46 regarding the proposed change. To comply with other statutory... Read more...Last updated: August 24, 1993
The proposal is to establish additional facilities for liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) extraction and export within the existing onshore treatment plant at the Burrup Peninsula. The existing Gas Treatment Plant occupies 231ha on a lease at Withnell Bay, near Dampier on the Burrup Peninsula about 1,300km north of Perth. The area within the lease has undergone major development, with the portions of Plant constructed to date consisting of a domestic gas plant, a liquefied natural gas (LNG) plant,... The proposal is for an offshore exploration drilling programme for petroleum within permit areas EP 341 and EP 364 which lie offshore and to the north east of the town of Onslow. This proposal seeks environmental approval for the drilling of an unspecified number of exploration wells within the permit areas. At this time two wells to test two targets have been outlined; near Lightfoot Reef, north of Large Island, and north of Passage Island. The permits lie within a Special Protection Locality... Two initial wells are proposed, followed by a minimum of four exploration wells over the next five years. To improve the efficiency of the formal assessment process and reduce repetition it has been agreed that, instead of submitting proposals for one well at a time, it would be acceptable to submit a proposal for a programme to address the entire permit area, provided that the CER adequately addresses all the relevant issues and that the site specific data would be submitted at a later stage,... The proposal is to develop a gas field near the Harriet Oil Field on the North-West Shelf, 20 km north-east of Barrow Island. This will involve a gas pipeline to collect the gas from four small gas fields and bring it to Varanus Island where it will be treated at an already approved gas processing facility before being piped to the mainland and connected to the State Electricity Commission of Western Australia's (SECWA) Dampier-Wagerup pipeline. The proposal is to develop the Tubridgi Gas Field to supply natural gas to the existing Dampier to Perth pipeline. This would require the establishment of processing facilities on site near Onslow and an 85 kilometre connecting pipe to join into the main line. The gas field is about 36 square kilometres in area and lies under Urala Station pastoral lease, about 25 km south-west of the town of Onslow. It is estimated that up to 30 terajoules of gas per day could be collected over a field life of... Read more...Last updated: December 20, 1989
The proposal is to drill an exploratory oil well at a site 6 km offshore from the mouth of the Ashburton River and 20 km west of Onslow. Drilling is expected to begin in December 1989 and will take about three weeks to complete. The proposed site lies within a Special Protection Locality in water about 10 m deep. The Ashburton River delta is regarded as being environmentally sensitive because of the presence of mangrove stands. As well, islands, fringing corals, and seagrass meadows nearby have... The proposal is for the development of the Saladin offshore oilfield close to Thevenard Island, some 25 km NNW of Onslow. Production of light crude oil from the offshore wells would be transferred by pipeline to a treatment and storage facility on the island. Tankers would be served by a loading site to the NNE of the island. Production over at least six years is envisaged. Read more...
