In 1998 Main Roads Western Australia (Main Roads) referred Stages 2, 3 and 4 of the Karratha – Tom Price Road, now called the Manuwarra Red Dog Highway (the Original Proposal), to the Environmental Protection Authority (EPA). Main Roads Western Australia proposes to reconstruct the existing two lanes into a four lane carriageway at the Bedfordale Hill section of Albany Highway between the end of the existing dual carriageway and the road train assembly area in the City of Armadale.
