The Jimblebar Optimisation Project is a revision of the existing Jimblebar Iron Ore Mine approved under Ministerial Statements 683, 809 and 857. The Revised Proposal is for mining operations at Jimblebar, located approximately 40 km east of the town of Newman. Mining of iron ore deposits will be undertaken above and below the water table. Mining operations will include open pits, overburden storage areas and the construction and operation of associated mine, processing and rail infrastructure.... The proposal is to revise the Mining Area C operation (located approximately 90km WNW of Newman) to include a new satellite ore body which is located approximately 8 km to the south of the existing approved Mining Area C operations. The proposal is to extend the existing Wheelarra Hill open pits, develop the South Jimblebar and Hashimoto deposits, and to increase the ore processing capacity by 30 million tonnes per annum (mtpa) to 75 mtpa. The proposal is for the remaining life of the mine (50+ years), located west of Jimblebar Creek on Mining Lease 266SA. It entails increasing the iron ore production rate at the mine from 8 million tonnes per annum (Mtpa) to approximately 12Mtpa, and the mining of the currently undeveloped deposits on either side of the existing operation, including both in-situ hard rock and detrital ores.
