The proposal is to construct and operate an ammonia plant on the Burrup Peninsula, approximately 1300 kilometres north of Perth. The selected project site is located in the King Bay-Hearson Cove Industrial Area and is approximately 6 and 10 kilometres from the towns of Dampier and Karratha respectively. The site covers an area of about 72 hectares and the actual plant footprint and infrastructure (including a thermal desalination plant) will occupy an area of approximately 20 hectares. The Department of Transport (DoT) proposes to upgrade the facilities in Beadon Creek to support the growing demand for land at the Maritime Facility. The upgrade works include capital dredging a berth pocket and turning basin immediately west of the existing channel.
