The proposal is to develop the East Spar offshore gas field, located in Commonwealth waters approximately 50 kilometres west of Barrow Island. Processing facilities would be constructed and operated on Varanus Island immediately adjacent to the existing Harriet Joint Venture facilities on the island. The proposal is to build and operate a Hot Briquetted Iron (HBI) plant of nominal capacity of 2 Mtpa, approximately 7.5 km south-west of Port Hedland. The proposal involves the extension of Corfield Street from its present junction with Prince Street, across the Southern River, to connect with Spencer Road adjacent to the junction with Warton Road/Burslem Drive. Reid Highway is identified on the Metropolitan Region Scheme as a 'Controlled Access Highway'. When completed, Reid Highway would connect the Mitchell Freeway and Marmion Avenue in the west with Roe Highway just north of Midland. This proposal is for the 8.3km section of Reid Highway between Beechboro Road and the Great Northern Highway/Roe Highway intersection, which would complete the link between Mitchell Freeway and Roe Highway.
