The proposal is to construct and operate a Direct Reduction/Hot Briquetted Iron plant near Cape Lambert in the Pilbara region of Western Australia. The proposed plant will utilise conventional and commercially proven ore concentration, pelletising and gas-based shaft furnace direct reduction technologies to convert Pilbara iron ore (fines and lump) into HBI. The production capacity of the plant is expected to be 3.6 million tonnes per year (Mtpa) of HBI. The project may be developed in stages... Read more...Last updated: September 5, 1995
The proposal is to build and operate a Hot Briquetted Iron (HBI) plant of nominal capacity of 2 Mtpa, approximately 7.5 km south-west of Port Hedland. The plant will produce a nominal 2 Mtpa of iron briquettes, which can be used as a feedstock for electric arc furnaces in the steel making process. Read more...Last updated: June 26, 1995
Inquiry under s46 regarding the proposal by BHP Iron Ore (Jimblebar) Pty Ltd to rationalise and expand its existing operations at Jimblebar. This operation, originally known as the McCamey's Monster Iron Ore Mining Proposal, was referred to the Environmental Protection Authority (EPA) by the previous proponent (Hancock Mining Ltd) in September 1987. The original proposal was subject to a Consultative Environmental Review (CER) level of assessment, and approval for the implementation of the... Read more...Last updated: June 1, 1994
BHP Iron Ore has submitted a further proposal to increase the rate of production from 10 MTPA to 15 MTPA. This increase would require the following modifications to the present operation, approved under Ministerial Statement 29 as amended by Ministerial Statement 259 : minor modifications to the existing processing plant to increase its capacity to 11 MTPA; the construction of additional processing facilities, as required, to increase capacity to 15MTPA; a gradual increase in mobile mining...
