The proposal is to build and operate a Hot Briquetted Iron (HBI) plant of nominal capacity of 2 Mtpa, approximately 7.5 km south-west of Port Hedland. The proposal is for Stage 2 of the Kanowna Belle Gold Mine, comprising the construction and operation of a sulphide concentrate oxidation plant (roaster) within the existing mine site infrastructure. Stage 2 will provide the necessary facilities to further treat high sulphide containing ores to remove the gold that is not extracted in the Stage 1 plant. The park is to cater for the development of heavy industry in the Kalgoorlie/Boulder region.
