The proposal is to develop a mineral sand mining proposal in the Shire of Capel on the Whicher Scarp, 10 km south of the town of Boyanup. The two deposits (northern and southern) contain over 750,000 tonnes of recoverable heavy mineral concentrate and would be mined using open cut, dry mining techniques involving heavy earthmoving equipment and processed through screening and separation plants. The proposal is for open-cut mining of iron ore (haematite) below the groundwater table at the currently mined W2 pit at Windarling, approximately 90 kilometres north-north-east of Koolyanobbing.
