The proposal is for the Stage 2 expansion of the Murrin Murrin Nickel-Cobalt mining and processing operation (Stage 1), 60 kilometres east of Leonora. The Murrin Murrin nickel cobalt project was originally assessed at the level of a Consultative Environmental Review, with the EPA providing its report and recommendations to the Minister for the Environment in May 1996. Approval to implement the project, subject to a number of Environmental Conditions, was issued on 5 June 1996. The proposed nickel/cobalt ore mining and processing operation is located near the former gold mining centre of Murrin Murrin, approximately 60km east of Leonora, in Western Australia. The project involves the establishment of open cut mine pits, a processing plant and associated infrastructure. The project will produce refined products of nickel and cobalt as well as an ammonium sulphate by-product. Read more...
