Albany Transhipment Proposal

Southern Ports Authority propose to facilitate export of magnetite by allowing the construction of a new Berth 5 and expanding current anchorages in King George Sound. Berth 5 is to be constructed consisting of an offshore piled structure with mooring dolphins. Transhipment vessels will leave Berth 5, transit to an inner anchorage and load an ocean-going vessel for first-stage export. Cape Riche Seawater Desalination Plant

The proposal is for a desalination plant located approximately five kilometres (km) west of Cape Riche, and approximately 19 km from the nearest town of Wellstead. The desalination plant would be based on reverse osmosis technology. A seawater intake and pump station would be located 500 m east of Cheyne Inlet, and a brine outfall would be located on the south side of Cape Riche. Walpole New Source Borefield Water Abstraction Trial

Albany Port Maintenance Dredging

The Albany Port Authority (APA) proposes to undertake maintenance dredging to remove 'high spots' within the Port of Albany entrance channel and harbor basin, to reinstate navigation depths. The APA proposes to dispose of approximately 82,400 cubic metres of dredged material offshore in King George Sound near the boundary of the Port water limit. The proposal is for construction and operation of facilities for annual export of 1.5 million tonnes of iron-ore, including the installation of a railcar dumper facility, iron ore storage, dust control systems and conveyor and loading equipment. Iron ore export through Esperance

The proposal is to export 1.5 million tonnes of iron ore per annum through the port of Esperance. The ore would be mined by Portman mining at Koolyanobbing and transported by Westrail via the rail link through Kambalda, Norseman and Salmon Gums to the port of Esperance for loading onto ships. Albany sewage treatment and disposal of water

The Water Authority of Western Australia has proposed that all municipal wastewater from Albany undergo secondary treatment at the Timewell Road (No. 2) plant prior to being piped and irrigated onto trees and pasture at a land disposal site on the outskirts of Albany. This proposal constitutes part of a long-term plan to rehabilitate the eutrophic Princess Royal Harbour and would result in the removal of the Point King sewage outfall (a significant source of nutrients to the harbour).
