About the Department of Water and Environmental Regulation (DWER)

The Department of Water and Environmental Regulation (DWER) was established on 1 July 2017 through the amalgamation of the Office of the Environmental Protection Authority with the departments of Water and Environment Regulation. It supports the EPA in conducting environmental impact assessments and developing policies to protect the environment.

The DWER also monitors compliance with the conditions of Ministerial Statements.

Alistair Jones is the Director General of DWER.

To be successful in its work, the DWER must also collaborate with a range of clients and stakeholders, including Government agencies, industry peak bodies, environmental non-Government organisations, proponents, and members of the community.
