Costs recovered for environmental assessment

Amendments to the Environmental Protection Act 1986 were passed by Parliament in November 2020 to allow the Department of Water and Environmental Regulation (DWER) to charge for the referral, assessment and implementation of proposals under Part IV to be cost recovered.

From 1 January 2022 new fees will be payable to the Department by proponents with projects being assessed by the Environmental Protection Authority (EPA).

The pricing model is designed to enable Government to better meet the expectations of industry and the community in protecting the environment.
