Proposal description
The proposal is to establish the Geraldton Steel Plant (GSP) at Oakajee, 23km north of Geraldton. The GSP will be located within the planned Oakajee Industrial Estate in the Shire of Chapman Valley. The proposal will consist of the following main components:
a pellet plant in which the majority of iron ore is converted to pellets suitable for direct reduction;
two direct reduction plants for the reduction of pelletised iron ore to direct reduced iron;
three electric arc furnaces and tlu·ee ladle furnaces producing liquid steel;
three metal casters;
an open cycle gas turbine power station of 370 MW nominal capacity;
water and wastewater treatment facilities and cooling towers;
a cryogenic oxygen plant;
handling and storage facilities; and
administration and maintenance facilities.
