ProjectProponent: Shire of CarnarvonProposal description: The proposal includes: creation of a permanent navigable waterway by dredging a 50 metre wide channel (to a depth of -2.5 m AHD) from the ocean entrance to the south arm of the Gascoyne River delta (at present tidal and river action causes on-going siltation of delta which prevents permanent boat access); use of dredge spoil to build up low-lying land (up to approximately 4.2 metres AHD) adjacent to Whitlock and Babbage islands and the shoreline of the existing Brockman subdivision, to make it suitable for urban/canal development; construction of standard urban and canal oriented subdivisions (incorporating 1250 residential lots); development of a 4ha caravan park and motel/hotel site; construction of a yacht club/marina, excavated from the east side of the Fascine; and reconstruct parts of the historic Tramway Bridge across the Fascine waterway as a tourist attraction.
