Project Proponent Sinosteel Midwest Corporation Limited Proposal description Sinosteel Midwest Corporation proposes an expansion of its existing operations at the Blue Hills Iron Ore Mine, involving the construction and operation of two new mine pits and waste rock dumps. A new processing plant and additional road infrastructure will also be established. The EPA set the level of assessment on the Blue Hills Mungada East Expansion Project by Sinosteel Midwest Corporation, as an Assessment on Proponent Information, category B (environmentally unacceptable). Following the appeal period and the Ministers subsequent determination on the Appeals received, the Minister remitted the proposal back to the EPA for assessment at the level of Public Environmental Review (8 weeks).
