Eureka 3D Marine Seismic Survey

Project
Proponent:
Pilot Energy
Proposal description:

Pilot Energy Limited proposes to undertake marine seismic surveying 7 kilometres off the mid-west coast of Western Australia, south of Dongara. The survey aims to acquire three-dimensional seismic data to improve understanding of subsurface geology and assess potential natural gas resources.

The proposal involves a purpose-built survey vessel traversing the survey area, generating seismic sound using controlled releases of compressed air. The vessels will tow 6 cables approximately 6,000 metres long to capture sound levels reflected from beneath the sea-floor. In shallower areas, seabed-mounted ocean bottom nodes will be temporarily deployed and later retrieved. No drilling, seabed excavation, or permanent infrastructure is proposed.

Region:
