The EPA's assessment report (Report 1409) was released on 3 August 2011. The Minister for Environment approved the proposal for implementation, subject to the implementation conditions of Ministerial Statement 881 (30 November 2011).

    To extend the Argyle Diamond Mine operations to develop an underground diamond mine and associated infrastructure 110 km south of Kununurra in the Shire of Wyndham-East Kimberley. This inquiry relates to Ministerial Statement 711, the subject of EPA Report 1205.

  8. West Pilbara Iron Ore Project Stage 1 - Mine and Rail

    The proposal is to develop eight iron ore deposits at five locations, between 35 and 85 kilometres (km) south of Pannawonica. A heavy-haulage railway approximately 285 km in length would be developed to connect the mine area with a port to be constructed at Anketell Point, 25 km north-east of Karratha. The project would produce up to 30 million tonnes per annum (Mtpa) of iron ore.

    The proposal is to revise the existing Pilbara Iron Ore and Infrastructure Project: East-West Railway and Mine Sites Stage B located approximately 70 to 100 km north of Newman in the Pilbara region of Western Australia. The proposal includes mines and associated infrastructure at Christmas Creek and Mindy Mindy, and an east-west railway to link the Stage A north-south railway (to Port Hedland) to the Christmas Creek Mine.

  12. Yoongarillup Mineral Sands Project

    The proposal is to develop, mine, rehabilitate and decommission the Yoongarillup Mineral Sands Project. The proposal is located approximately 17 kilometres south east of Busselton. The proposal includes the construction of associated mine infrastructure (offices, workshops, laydown area, roads, and ore processing facilities), the backfilling of mined pits and the rehabilitation and decommissioning of disturbed areas.

  13. Jimblebar Iron Ore Project

    The proposal is to extend the existing Wheelarra Hill open pits, develop the South Jimblebar and Hashimoto deposits, and to increase the ore processing capacity by 30 million tonnes per annum (mtpa) to 75 mtpa. Open pit mining will occur above and below ground and will involve dewatering. Excess water will be discharged into the Ophthalmia Dam.

    To develop an open pit mine and process 20 million tonnes per annum (Mtpa) of ore to produce approximately 23,000 tonnes per annum (tpa) of molybdenum concentrate and approximately 48,000 tpa of copper concentrate.

    The proposal is to develop an open-cut iron ore mine and associated infrastructure at the Turee Syncline deposit, located approximately 30 kilometres north-east of Paraburdoo.

    The proposal is to develop an open-cut iron ore mine and associated infrastructure at the Western Turner Syncline Stage 2 – B1 and Section 17 deposits, located approximately 30 kilometres west of Tom Price in the central Pilbara Region, Western Australia.

  18. Mining Area C - Southern Flank

    The proposal is to revise the Mining Area C operation (located approximately 90km WNW of Newman) to include a new satellite ore body which is located approximately 8 km to the south of the existing approved Mining Area C operations. The revised proposal would require the additional clearing of approximately 19,850 hectares of vegetation and mining below the water table.

  19. Hope Downs Iron Ore Mine

    To establish an iron ore mine in the Hope Downs area, 75km north-west of Newman, including facilities for limited processing of the ore, and a rail connection from the mine to a rail network for the transport of iron ore product to the coast.

  20. Orebody 32 Above Water Table Iron Ore Mine

    BHP Billiton Iron Ore is proposing to develop and operate the Orebody 32 deposit, located approximately 10 kilometres north-east of the Newman Township in the Shire of East Pilbara. The Proposal is known as the Orebody 32 East Above Water Table Mine Project.
