Gas Fired Co-generation Facility

Project
Proponent:
Worsley Alumina Pty Ltd
Proposal description:

Worsley Alumina’s alumina refinery has existing approval for the production of 3.7 million tonnes per anum (Mtpa) of alumina.

This proposal is for the construction and operation of a natural gas-fired, co-generation option. The proposal would be implemented in two stages, each consisting of a gas turbine with a nominal generation capacity of 120 MW electrical output and a heat recovery steam generator (HRSG) of nominally 210 MW steam output. The facility would be located at the Worsley alumina refinery. Each of the stages could provide approximately 994 gigawatt hours (GWhr) of electricity annually, much of which would be exported into the South West Interconnected System (SWIS).

Note: There is a separate proposal for expansion of the project to increase production to 4.4 Mtpa. The proposal details an option of coal fired co-generation.
