K2 Project

Project
Proponent:
Western Energy Pty Ltd
Proposal description:

The proposal is for the extension of the existing Kwinana Swift Power Station (KSPS) to increase the site’s total generation capacity to 370 megawatts (MW). It involves the construction and operation of 250 MW Open Cycle Gas Turbine (OCGT) and associated infrastructures. The existing KSPS units are not part of this proposal.

The K2 power station would operate as a peaking power station, connecting into the South West Interconnected System (SWIS) to supply additional power during periods of peak and high shoulder load demands. The new units would be multi-fuel capable, with the ability to operate on natural gas, diesel, distillate, ethane, liquefied natural gas (LNG), liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), and/or hydrogen.

The proposal is located at 1 Burton Place, Kwinana Breach (Lot 13 DP39572), within the City of Kwinana, Western Australia
