Kalgoorlie Consolidated Gold Mines is seeking to expand the Fimiston Gold mine operations (Fimiston), located 600 kilometres East of Perth, and adjacent to the City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder, Western Australia.
The proposal is a significant amendment to the current Fimiston Gold Mine Operations Extension (Stage 2) and Mine Closure Planning, approved under Ministerial Statement 782, operated by Kalgoorlie Consolidated Gold Mines (KCGM).
The proposal is for the expansion of the Fimiston operations in Kalgoorlie by widening and deepening the Superpit by means of the Ivanhoe Cutback and includes expansion of Fimiston II Tailings Storage Facility (TSF), a new Fimiston III TSF, an extended waste rock landform, topsoil stockpiles, relocated and modified Environmental Noise Bund, and other supporting infrastructure.
The proposal includes the additional clearing of up to 1868 hectares (ha) of which 1580 ha is native vegetation.
The expansion will increase the development envelope from the currently approved 5,914 ha to 7,795 ha, to allow for expansion of infrastructure and mining activities.
The proposal operation life is proposed to be an additional 12 years to 2034
