The proposal is for a poultry litter fired power station at a site approximately 70 kilometres north of Perth on the Brand Highway near Muchea. The power station would receive poultry litter from farms across the broad Perth region. Delivery would be by covered trucks, which would enter the enclosed litter reception shed and tip onto a concrete floor. The proposal is for a marina for Mangles Bay. The marina would be built between the Garden Island Causeway and Hymus Street at the southern end of Cockburn Sound. The marina would have an ultimate capacity of 500 pens and cater for boats up to 20 metres in length. The Yakabindie Nickel Project was originally approved in December 1990 and has since been the subject of 5 reviews under Section 46 of the, Environmental Protection Act 1986, (EP Act). These reviews have related to changes to the proposal and extensions of the time limit of approval.
