The proposal is to mine the Tutunup South Mineral Sands Project located approximately 15 kilometres southeast of Busselton on Lots 2, 1827 and 1828 and part of Lots 441, 442, 1268, 1813, 1829 and part of Crown Reserve 22455, Hithergreen and part of State Forest 33 Yoganup. The proposal is to utilise aquaculture techniques to produce a maximum of 1,000 tonnes of Barramundi per year in Cone Bay. Cone Bay is within the Buccaneer Archipelago approximately 215 kilometres (km) north-northeast of Broome in the north-west of Western Australia. Cone Bay is approximately 20 km long and 6.5 km wide near its west-facing opening and is fringed by sandstone cliffs on both sides. The proposal is to develop and operate a direct shipping iron ore project in the Pilbara, as allowed in Ministerial Statement 775 . The project involves the open-cut mining of eight small pits approximately 70 kilometres east of Port Hedland to obtain direct shipping ore quality haematite. Annual ore production will be 1.5 million tonnes. This assessment is for the proposal under s46 of the EP Act to remove condition 8-1 related to troglofauna sampling. The proponent proposes to mine up to 10.1 Mtpa of magnetite ore to produce 6 Mtpa of ore concentrate over a 15 year mine life. The magnetite concentrate would be conveyed to Port Hedland from the mine via a 110 km slurry pipeline located alongside the existing Pilbara Energy Pipeline (PEPL). The concentrate would be dewatered at a purpose-built facility located at Utah Point in the Port Hedland Port area, prior to shipping overseas, where it would be used predominantly in steel manufacture. The previously assessed proposal includes an open-cut lead carbonate mine and processing facilities 30 kilometres west of the Wiluna townsite.
