The proposal is to mine high-grade detrital iron ore from Hamersley Iron's leases on Mt Brockman station. The deposits lie at the foot of the Brockman massif some 3km from Mt Brockman and 55 km north-west of Tom Price. The proposal is to construct and operate the Outer Harbour Development which includes landside and marine infrastructure for the handling and export of iron ore from BHPBIO’s operations. The Boodarie stockyard infrastructure will supply an overland conveyor to a transfer pad located to the west of the existing Finucane Island facilities. The subsea pipeline from the Macedon Gas Field (100 kilometres west of Onslow) connects to the onshore gas treatment and compression plant at Ashburton North (15 kilometres southwest of Onslow). The expansion involves the construction of a land-backed wharf, 300m jetty, lay down areas, access road and associated infrastructure. The Water Corporation submitted a proposal 'Burrup Peninsula Desalinated Water and Seawater Supplies Project' in May 2001 (Water Corporation, 2001a) to service the requirements of new industrial developments on the Burrup Peninsula.
