This proposal to fill an old limestone quarry with dry inert fill is within an area affected by the Environmental Protection Authority's System Six Recommendation MS. As the site is surrounded on three sides by Neerabup National Park, the potential impacts of the proposal on the values of the park need to be considered. The potential for groundwater pollution is an issue of concern because the site is located about 800 metres upstream of an area designated by the Water Authority as a... The proposal is for remedial treatment of Lot 839, Railway Parade, Bassendean. The site contains various waste materials which can be traced to the site's historical land use as an iron and steel foundry, processing scrap metal from any source available including mining waste, old railway carriages and fabrication off-cuts. The foundry was closed in 1982 and most of the production plant was dismantled and removed. Since this time there has been negligible activity at the site. The site is... The Water Authority has stated that following the completion of the Pinjar groundwater development, a new major water supply source will be required by 1992. This reasoning is based on current and predicted water consumption demand even in view of the Water Authority's public water conservation programme. Because of the extent, magnitude and likely environmental implications of developing a new water supply source, the EPA required the Water Authority to prepare an ERMP for this project....
