The proposal is to increase production capacity by constructing a levee across Useless Inlet near the northern limit of the mining lease which is about 7 km from Clough's Bar. The levee would be constructed of earthen materials taken from two quarries on either side of Useless Inlet and would have an engineering design similar to that of other breakwaters, such as at Hillary's Marina, with a relatively impermeable core of sandy material and an outer covering of rock. There would be... Read more...Last updated: July 9, 1992
The proposal is to collect an existing backlog of waste polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) and chlorinated pesticides which are stored at various centres in Western Australia and export them to the United Kingdom for destruction by high temperature incineration at the Rechem facilities at Fawley and Pontypool. The proposal does not cover waste which may be generated in the future as it is unlikely these materials would ever be used again in Western Australia. Environmental issues relating to... Over the last two years, consideration of options for power supply in Western Australia has led to public debate over the type and extent of new generating plant required. The Environmental Protection Authority has commented on the general energy supply question and attendant issues in a report on the proposed Collie Power Station (Environmernal Protection Authority Bulletin 472). A private power generation option was proposed near Mount Lesueur, in an area previously proposed for nature... Read more...Last updated: February 6, 1992

The proposal involves a small extraction operation using dozers, excavators and trucks in an area which has been subject to similar, though smaller- scale, mining activity in the past. The gypsum occurs within old coastal ridges and the extraction operation would involve clearing the vegetation and topsoil, which would be stockpiled, and mining the gypsum before spreading the topsoil and vegetation back over the area. The Department of Mines has proposed to place a range of conditions on the... Read more...Last updated: December 27, 1989
