The proposal is to upgrade the Pinjarra Alumina Refinery. The proposal involves an upgrading of the seed filtration facility to improve its efficiency in order to increase the alumina production by approximately 17% to approximately 4.2 million tonnes per annum. The project is located 130 kilometres northwest of Newman in the Pilbara. The proposal includes additional clearing up to 3,223 hectares (ha), an extension of the development envelope of up to 2,750 ha and an increase in abstraction of groundwater of up to 1 gigalitre per annum. The proposal is to construct and operate an ammonia plant on the Burrup Peninsula, approximately 1300 kilometres north of Perth. The selected project site is located in the King Bay-Hearson Cove Industrial Area and is approximately 6 and 10 kilometres from the towns of Dampier and Karratha respectively.
