2017 Focus

One of the EPA’s strategies, identified in its Strategic Plan 2016-2019, is to “Foster strategic regional consideration of potential short and long-term environmental impacts”.

To meet this strategy, each year the EPA identifies a number of issues on which to focus its attention. The following issues are the focus for 2017.

The EPA has established an ongoing program to undertake a rigorous evaluation of outcomes associated with its decisions. The evaluation program focuses on three theme areas:

On 13 December 2016, the EPA launched its new guidelines and procedures framework and content.

The population in the Perth and Peel regions is expected to increase to 3.5 million people by 2050.

The rehabilitation of Western Australia’s unique flora and vegetation following the closure of large-scale mines in the years ahead looms as a major environmental issue and enduring concern for the EPA.
