Proposal description

Woodside Energy Ltd (Woodside) proposes to construct and operate the Woodside Solar Facility in the Maitland Strategic Industrial Area, located approximately 15 kilometres south-west of Karratha, in the Pilbara region of Western Australia. 

The proposal will generate electricity (up to 500 megawatts) from a large-scale solar photovoltaic (PV) farm and includes energy storage (battery) infrastructure.   

The Proposal is only for the infrastructure associated with the generation and storage of electricity from Solar PV. All transmission to deliver the power from the Solar Facility to customers would be delivered via the North West Interconnected System (NWIS), through existing, upgraded, or new infrastructure constructed, owned and operated by Horizon Power for all users of the NWIS. 

The proposal would include a total disturbance of 975.6  hectares (ha) within a development envelope of 1100.3 ha.

Attachment 1 to Ministerial Statement 1212 - An increase in the total development envelope by 0.96 ha (from 1,100.3 ha to 1,101.26 ha) for the construction of an access road connecting the Woodside Solar Facility to the North West Coastal Highway. The Proposal Content Document published in the Statement of Reasons for the section 45c supersedes the ‘Proposal Content Document attachment 2’ referred to in Ministerial Statement 1212. Changes approved under s. 45C on 29 February 2024.
