Alcoa proposes to expand the Wagerup Refinery through construction of a third production unit. The proposal is to upgrade the Pinjarra Alumina Refinery. The proposal involves an upgrading of the seed filtration facility to improve its efficiency in order to increase the alumina production by approximately 17% to approximately 4.2 million tonnes per annum. The proposal is to install improved pollution control equipment on the Liquor Burner at Kwinana in order to reduce emissions. The existing pollution control equipment on the Liquor Burner consists of a primary and secondary cyclone with water scrubbing.
