EPA to provide advice on Mandogalup buffer

The Environmental Protection Authority will examine potential health and amenity impacts of dust, now and into the future, in respect to urban development in the Mandogalup area.

Chairman Dr Tom Hatton said the EPA would consider the potential impacts of both current and future land uses before providing advice on an appropriate buffer size.

“The EPA’s advice will focus on the specific issue of potential health and amenity aspects of dust in the Mandogalup area in respect to any proposed buffer,” Dr Hatton said.

EPA to formally assess underground pipeline through Bush Forever bushland

EPA Chairman Dr Tom Hatton said significant enquiries by the EPA during the referral stage of the Balannup Wastewater Pressure Main - a 4.5 kilometre pipeline running from the Collared Street Pump Station to the Waterworks Road Pump Station - found further assessment of the proposal was required.

Dr Hatton said the project proposed constructing the majority of the pipeline using open excavation methods, with 1.5km within the Bush Forever site constructed using a trench-less pipe installing technology known as the EcoPlough technique.

EPA welcomes independent review into policies and guidelines
17 May 2016

The Environmental Protection Authority has welcomed the findings of an independent legal and governance review.

Minister for Environment Albert Jacob initiated the review into the EPA’s practices for policy and guideline development and their application to environmental impact assessments following a decision by the Supreme Court in December 2015 about the environmental assessment of the Stage 8 Roe Highway extension project.

EPA Chairman Dr Tom Hatton said the review had been an opportunity to closely examine the EPA’s suite of policies and guidelines.
