EPA to provide advice on Mandogalup buffer

Release date:
June 30, 2016

The Environmental Protection Authority will examine potential health and amenity impacts of dust, now and into the future, in respect to urban development in the Mandogalup area.

Chairman Dr Tom Hatton said the EPA would consider the potential impacts of both current and future land uses before providing advice on an appropriate buffer size.

“The EPA’s advice will focus on the specific issue of potential health and amenity aspects of dust in the Mandogalup area in respect to any proposed buffer,” Dr Hatton said.

“The EPA will now begin gathering and reviewing information prior to calling for public submissions.”

Dr Hatton said he would call for public submissions when the EPA had determined the full scope of the review.

He said the Minister for Environment Albert Jacob had requested the independent board provide advice under Section 16(e) of the Environmental Protection Act 1986 following a request from the Minister for State Development for information on the size of the buffer.

The EPA will provide its advice to the Minister for Environment later this year.
