Environmental Stakeholder Advisory Group Advice – Role and Structure of the EPA

The Minister for Environment has received a report from the Environmental Stakeholder Advisory Group on the role and structure of the Environmental Protection Authority (EPA), as reflected in recommendation 10.4.3 of a report by the EPA in March 2009 titled “Review of the Environmental Impact Assessment Process in Western Australia”. The Environmental Stakeholder Advisory Group report is now publicly available.

The Environmental Stakeholder Advisory Group was established by the Minister in June 2009 to provide her with advice on specific environmental matters.

Western Australia's environmental impact assessment (EIA) process is a critical component of the Government's wider development approvals process.

The table below outlines the implementation status of the recommendations from the review of the EPA’s Environmental Impact Assessment process. The table will be updated monthly. Consultation

As part of the EIA Review of Processes, the EPA has established a Reference Group of comprising representatives of key stakeholder groups to provide for an inclusive and transparent process of engagement with key stakeholders.

This group comprises representatives from the following:

Australian Petroleum Production and Exploration Association (APPEA)
Association of Mining and Exploration Companies (AMEC)
Chamber of Minerals and Energy
Chamber of Commerce and Industry
Conservation Council of WA
World Wildlife Fund
Environmental Consultants Association
University sector
Urban Development Institute of Australia
WA Local Government Association
Office of Development Approvals Coordination
Department of Environment and Conservation
Department of Industry and Resources
Department of Planning and Infrastructure
Western Australian Planning Commission

The role of the Reference Group is to provide input and advice to the Chairman on the Terms of Reference for the Review of the Environmental Impact Assessment Processes and on matters and issues referred to the Reference Group for input.

Other stakeholder groups will have an opportunity to provide input either through a Forum or having their say through this website.
