Straits Resources Pty Ltd is proposing to construct and operate a 10 million tonne per annum (Mtpa) solar saltfield (known as the Yannarie Solar Project) on the eastern margin of the Exmouth Gulf.

An Environmental Review and Management Programme (ERMP) has been prepared by the Company to examine the environmental effects associated with the proposed development. The ERMP describes the proposal, examines the likely environmental effects and the proposed environmental management procedures. This document, available at www.yannariesolar.com.au is open for public submissions until 12 March 2007.

The proposal is a controlled action under the Australian Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999 (EPBC Act) and is being assessed under the Bilateral Agreement between the Australian and Western Australian Governments.

Additional information about:

  • Flora and vegetation;
  • Subterranean fauna; and
  • Subtidal benthic communities
will be published in the first half of 2007. These supplementary reports will be made available for a further four (4) week public submission period.
