	Summary: Fortescue Metals Group Limited (hereafter referred to as FMG) proposes to develop the Pilbara Iron Ore and Infrastructure Project in the Pilbara region. 	Summary: Striker Resources NL proposes to establish a dry door barge site, laydown area, and access road in a coastal inlet 36 kilometres (km) southeast of Cape Londonderry. The site, known locally as Gumboot Bay, is on Unallocated Crown Land that has been identified for inclusion in the Proposed Cape Londonderry National Park (PNP/215). The proposal also includes 3.6 km of unsealed road to be constructed through the PNP/215. 1168	Wheelarra Hill Iron Ore Mine Extension
	Summary: The Wheelarra Hill mine was started by Hancock Mining Ltd and has been operating since 1989 under the Iron Ore (McCamey's Monster) Agreement Authorisation Act 1972. In 1992 BHP Minerals Ltd acquired the mine, which is located 40km east of the town of Newman, in the Opthalmia Range. Subsequent exploration east and west of the original mine has boosted the known ore reserves and the proposal is to extend the existing pit, create new ones and expand production from the currently approved 8 million tonnes per annum (mtpa) to 12mtpa of Marra Mamba iron ore, over the envisaged mine life of about 50 years. The ore will be transported to Newman by train for blending with product from other mines in the area before being railed to Port Hedland, as is currently the case. 1164	Gas Pipeline To Nifty Copper Operations
	Summary: The EPA concludes that the potential impacts upon flora and fauna as a result of the proposed clearing are not likely to be significant given that the vegetation associations and habitats to be impacted are widespread and that the area of permanent disturbance is limited to approximately 20 hectares. The EPA considers it unlikely that this proposal will result in a high level of fauna mortality subject to implementation of the EPA's recommended conditions and proponent commitments. 1152	Relocation of Herne Hill Quarry Operation, Amendment of Implementation Conditions
	Summary: Pioneer Concrete (WA) Pty Ltd (Pioneer) referred a proposal to the EPA on 12 January 1990 to relocate its then existing Herne Hill quarry (Pioneer No 1 quarry) further east to create a new quarry in Red Hill (Pioneer No 2 quarry). The relocation proposal was assessed by the Environmental Protection Authority (EPA) at the Public Environmental Review (PER) level. The Minister for the Environment issued approval for the proposal on 5 December 1991 subject to conditions and commitments as described in Ministerial Statement 199. The Red Hill quarry, located at Lot 11 Toodyay Road, Red Hill has been in operation since late 1997. 1148	Sons of Gwalia Ltd, Greenbushes Operations, Noise Regulation 17 Variation
	Summary: Sons of Gwalia Ltd (SGW) applied on 11 February 1998 to the Minister for the Environment (the Minister) under regulation 17 of the Environmental Protection (Noise) Regulations 1997, for approval to vary from the prescribed standard, in relation to noise emissions from its Greenbushes Operations. The basis of the application is that it is not practicable for the noise emissions to meet the prescribed standards. SGW routinely operates on a 24-hour basis and in close proximity to the Greenbushes townsite. Noise emissions are strongly influenced by the effects of meteorological conditions, particularly in winter where the dominant wind direction enhances noise propagation from the mine site to the township. Wheelarra Hill Iron Ore Mine Extension

Summary: The Wheelarra Hill mine was started by Hancock Mining Ltd and has been operating since 1989 under the Iron Ore (McCamey's Monster) Agreement Authorisation Act 1972. In 1992 BHP Minerals Ltd acquired the mine, which is located 40km east of the town of Newman, in the Opthalmia Range. Subsequent exploration east and west of the original mine has boosted the known ore reserves and the proposal is to extend the existing pit, create new ones and expand production from the currently approved 8 million tonnes per annum (mtpa) to 12mtpa of Marra Mamba iron ore, over the envisaged mine life of about 50 years. The ore will be transported to Newman by train for blending with product from other mines in the area before being railed to Port Hedland, as is currently the case.

Summary: Sons of Gwalia Ltd (SGW) applied on 11 February 1998 to the Minister for the Environment (the Minister) under regulation 17 of the Environmental Protection (Noise) Regulations 1997, for approval to vary from the prescribed standard, in relation to noise emissions from its Greenbushes Operations. The basis of the application is that it is not practicable for the noise emissions to meet the prescribed standards. SGW routinely operates on a 24-hour basis and in close proximity to the Greenbushes townsite. Noise emissions are strongly influenced by the effects of meteorological conditions, particularly in winter where the dominant wind direction enhances noise propagation from the mine site to the township.

Perth Metropolitan Desalination Proposal, Amendment of Implementation Conditions by Inquiry

Summary: Water Corporation is proposing to upgrade the capacity of the Perth Metropolitan Desalination Proposal, from the originally approved 30 gigalitres (GL) per year to 45 GL per year. The proposed changes include increasing the production of potable water, use of seawater, and discharge of concentrated seawater and further options for combining intake seawater with cooling water discharged from Western Power's Kwinana Power Station (KPS). Summary: This report provides the Environmental Protection Authority's (EPA's) advice to the Minister for the Environment on the proposal by Mr Q R Bricknell to clear approximately 77 hectares of native vegetation for pasture and cropping at Melbourne Location 926, approximately 27 kilometres East of Watheroo. The proponent submitted a Notice of Intent to Clear approximately 112 ha of native remnant vegetation in January 2003 to the Commissioner for Soil and Land Conservation. During the assessment of the proposal by the Department of Agriculture Land Conservation Officer the total proposed clearing was revised to 77 ha. It is this proposal that was referred to the EPA and is the subject of this report.

Drainage Management, Swan-Canning Catchment

Summary: This report provides the Environmental Protection Authority's (EPA's) advice and recommendations to the Minister for the Environment in response to a request from the Minister to provide advice under Section 16(e) of the Environmental Protection Act 1986. Advice was requested on statutory mechanisms to control quality and quantity of drainage into the Swan and Canning Rivers. The management of urban drainage has been identified as a high priority in reducing nutrients entering the rivers and the Minister requests strategic advice on the means to improve co-ordination and statutory responsibility for the control and management of the impact of urban drainage on these rivers.
